The tennis year is over, but already the players have begun to prepare for the first big event of 2016- Australian Open.
From the 18 – 30 January a total of 128 players will compete in the women’s edition of the Australian Open. The big question of that tournament is whether Serena Williams can bounce back from the disappointment of not winning the US Open 2015 ore she wil face the struggle she had in 2014?
The 34-year-old American has held the world no. 1 ranking for almost three straight years, and recently came two wins away from capturing a legendary Calendar Grand Slam at the US Open.
Although she had an astonishing season the lost semifinal in New York caused her to end her season immediately afterwards, and is was clear to everybody that follows tennis that Serena felt the blow of that loss more than she had felt the joy of any of her many other successes.
Another player who will be someone to follow in Melbourne is Victoria Azarenka. The two-time Australian Open champion returned from a previous season wrecked with injuries end personal struggles in 2015, and fought her way back to the top. Although she never claimed a title, Azarenka did not look far from her brilliant best nearer the end of the year to approaching her form of old.
